Solutions for Pregnancy Acne
The primary cause of acne when you're pregnant is the increased hormone level of Progesterone that is released in the first trimester. The higher level increases the skin's production of natural oils. It's hard to predict who will develop pregnancy acne. You have a higher risk, though, if you have a history of acne or have acne flares at the start of your menstrual cycle.
To treat pregnancy acne, start with self-care:
- Wash your face twice a day with a a Pregnancy Safe Cleanser. Be gentle and use lukewarm water.
- Avoid picking, scratching, popping or squeezing acne sores. These habits can spread infection and potentially cause scarring.
- Hydration. Hydration is tough to keep up with when you're pregnant. And hydrating your body from the inside out is key. Keeping your skin hydrated with a pregnancy safe skincare moisturizer will help prevent breakouts. Drinking about six to eight glasses of water a day will not only dilute out secretions to improve acne, but will also contribute to the relaxation of the uterus and even help with the constipation. Hydration is not an acne cure, but it will help.
- Avoid resting your face in your hands. This can trap skin oils and sweat, which can irritate acne.
If you have oily hair, shampoo daily. Be careful to keep hair off your face. |
